Front Door Restyle

Before I dive into this week's project, I have a confession to make.  The title of this post is a lie.  I used the extra $7 from last week's project this week. So it's $22.  Okay, I feel better now.

This week we're tackling the front door.  It wasn't too bad, but it was pretty generic.  The project took way less than 15 minutes, so it was an easy and fun update!  My little lady and I took a field trip to Marshall's (HomeGoods is a little too far for me), and grabbed a couple items to spruce up our entrance.

My vision was pretty basic:  a welcome sign for the front door.  WAY under $15, right?  Until I started wandering the aisles, where I found a rustic looking wooden lantern that I needed.  It was $16, so we kept walking, stopping back to visit it, then walking some more.  This cycle continued 3 times until I remembered that I had only spent $8 last week.  Sweet!  $30 total is basically the same thing as $15 each week.  The math works in my head :)

Here's the front door before:

I bought a picture frame at Marshall's (and the lantern), and started brainstorming what I wanted the sign to look like.  Remembering that I had some "chalk board style" contact paper in my craft closet, I cut a piece to put over the glass in the frame.

Voila - a chalk board sign in 30 seconds:

Then I grabbed some chalk and wrote "welcome".  This took three attempts, as I am a little terrible at spacing out letters.  I tied a piece of black ribbon to the frame, then removed the wreath and hung it on the hook.  After that I put the wreath back on.

Here's the finished product:

The breakdown:

Wreath: Bought on Etsy two years ago - no new cost
Picture Frame: $6
Chalk board contact paper: Already had - no new cost
Lantern: $16 splurge!
Pumpkins: Bought three or four years ago at the one spot at Target - no new cost

Total cost: $22 and 5 minutes.  Now to come up with an idea for next week...
